Taking a step back in time

I visited Dunedin today and thought I'd take a picture of some rolling stock that Ken Devlin acquired upon John Rappard's passing. This is perhaps two thirds of it (and other people may have more) , and while some of the earlier items might seem an little basic in this day and age, one must remember that 30 years ago, this was pioneering stuff; back in the days before Atlas, Kato and Microtrains ushered us into the Second Age of NZ120.

The exquisite models of double Fairlie 'Josephine' and its attendant period rolling stock exhibited around the South Island in 1988 and some of John's modern rolling stock such his CBs are at least the equal anything being produced today.

Even though I've only ever seen John's Vulcan in the Journal, it looked a very nice model. A very desirable collection. Do any of the models get taken out for a run now and then ?

1/2 the loco's were fitted with the old Zero-one control system so can't run on DC tracks. From memory its the Dg pair, the Dj, Vulcan, both the De's (maybe only one) and the Dc.
The old style coaches were plasticard built on shaped wood formers, and had a loverly heft and solidness to them. There's few wagons that were from my old moulds as well.
Quite a few good memories in that case.

I particularly like the pair of DG's. plan to build one once Russell has kits available again and after seeing these I will use modern cab on it. what an amazing collection.

Better late than never: Ken has a small circuit of N track so some of the DC models have been run, but most aren't great runners on the wee circle of track. There are two DCs here that are RhysTops that Ken has painted, and the CBs and some of the other items here are apparently from the Druffster also.
